Museum

Mission

Commemorating the spirit of

'water droplet' painter Kim Tschang-yeul

The Kim Tschang-yeul Art Museum, Jeju was established following the donation of 220 artworks by the artist to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The museum opened in September 2016 in a newly constructed building in Jeoji Culture and Art Village. Since its inauguration, the museum has functioned as a comprehensive art space where visitors can encounter, experience and engage with the artist’s work, thoughts and life.

The museum’s mission is to perpetuate the legacy of Kim’s artistic philosophy through the analysis of the influence of his oeuvre on the history of modern and contemporary art in Korea and globally, thereby contextualising and rediscovering the value of his art.
